Who is Tinder Scammer Simon Leviev?
Simon Leviev, real name Shimon Hayut, is an Israeli con man who is the subject of New Netflix Documentary.
Hayut famously impersonated Leviev, the son of a diamond billionaire, to scam women out of big money.
He allegedly used the money he got from other women to lure others with private flights, luxury hotels and other expensive gifts to gain their trust before ask them for a large amount of money with the promise of paying them back.
Did Shimon Hayut go to jail?
Over the years, Hayut has inside and outside the prison but never for very long.
Hayut “was charged in Israel with theft, forgery and fraud in 2011 for cashing a stolen check, but fled before sentencing. He was convicted in Finland for cheating on women and was returned to Israel in 2017, but fled the country again.” The Times of Israel reported.
Two years later, in 2019, he was taken into custody in Israeli after pleading guilty to fraud charges but was released after serving a sentence of 15 months and five months, allegedly due to a program to reduce the prison population because Pandemic caused by covid-19.
As of February 2022, he is a free man.
Who is in the Netflix documentary?
Tinder Swindler is a True Crime Documentary on Netflix and is Based on real life story by Cecilie Fjellhoy, Pernilla Sjoholm and Ayleen Charlotte, all of whom claimed to have been tricked by Shimon Hayut.
The documentary features all three of Hayut’s alleged victims as they tell their stories of how dating app made them lose their luck.
Fjellhoy, allegedly lost more than $200,000 to fraud while Sjoholm was scammed $45,000 in the hope that Hayut would pay her back.
At this time, Hayut has not been charged with defrauding Fjellhoy, Sjoholm or Charlotte.
“I think it’s extremely difficult for women,” said Felicity Morris, the film’s director. Vanity Fair.
“Here’s a guy who really messed them up, and now it’s on his Instagram that he’s basically living the same life as before. That’s why, with the movie, we just wanted it to feel like a bit of justice. served by exposing him and saying, look, this is what he does. He can’t hide it.”
Hayut is said to have been offered to star in the documentary but declined, telling the production team, “I’m going to bring a lawsuit against you for libel, lies and everything you have based on. on the lie, and that’s it”, according to Newsweek.
