Who is The Watcher in The Watcher on Netflix?
The Guardian’s identity is never revealed. However, we are initially led to believe that private detective Theodora Birch is the person behind the spooky letters in the final episode. At the beginning of the final episode, Theodora tells Dean, while lying in a hospital bed, that she was the previous owner of 657 Boulevard and that she is The Watcher.
Theodora explains to Dean that she bought the house after her husband died, but was diagnosed with cancer shortly after moving in. Although she found a doctor who claimed he could cure cancer, the treatments were too expensive so she had to sell the house. She then finds hidden money from her late husband to pay for the treatments, but the Brannocks had already moved in. Theodora explains to Dean that she started sending the letters to get her to sell the house so she could buy it back.
After his conversation with Theodora, Dean goes to Maureen’s house to apologize for his past behavior. He tells Maureen that he found out The Watcher was Theodora, the old owner of 657 Boulevard. But Maureen tells him that no one named Theodora has ever lived in that house. Dean is shocked by what he just found out.
Dean and Nora then attend Theodora’s funeral and talk to their daughter. Theodora’s daughter reveals to Dean and Nora why Theodora lied about being the guardian. She tells them that Theodora wanted to solve the case before she died and give them peace. So now Dean and Nora are back to square one to find out who The Watcher is.
Karen Calhoun later buys the home from the Brannocks as an LLC, but eventually sells it after receiving a letter from The Watcher and seeing a mysterious person walking around the house. The episode ends with a new family living at 657 Boulevard and The Watcher is never found.
