Johnson, 20, revealed her new name via her Instagram Story, sharing a picture with a black background with the words Ava Raine written in red.

Responding to criticism that she was giving up her family name, she tweeted: “I probably sound like a broken record and hopefully that’s the last thing I mention.

“But I don’t understand why portraying people as separate from their family name is such a heated topic.

“A name does not discredit a family’s past achievements.

“[I] I could build my entire career around my dad and people would still beat me up.”

Aside from her illustrious family history, Johnson’s biggest fear is not living up to her own expectations.

During an appearance on the Swerve City podcast, she said: “Never living up to the expectations that I have of myself, I think that would probably be the greatest.

“And just, like, not living up to the legacy.

“But when I think about it, I also feel like I’m comparing myself to that in a way.

“So I feel like I’ll probably never fall into that trap of comparing myself.

“When I look at myself, I obviously see myself as my parents’ child, but I also see myself as just me.”

Proud dad Dwayne gushed about his daughter pursuing a wrestling career during an appearance on The Tonight Show.

The 50-year-old told host Jimmy Fallon: “She signed her contract with WWE and you know it blows my mind.

“But more importantly, following in my footsteps sounds cliche, but she actually wants to find her own path and walk, which is so important.”
