Who is John Taylor?

John Taylor was born in Leeds and lived in the Bramley area.

He was known locally as “the pet man” as he kept a number of dogs and ferrets and also sold pet food to local people.

Taylor is said to have enjoyed hunting from a young age.

The divorced parcel delivery man lived alone in a terraced house in the Bramley area of ​​Leeds.

He was known to locals as a poacher who often hunted animals for his own amusement.

On numerous occasions, Taylor has been spotted hunting rabbits, pheasants and foxes near his home.

Taylor was once seen repeatedly stabbing a fox, but little did he know what side of him would come to light in the search for missing schoolgirl Leanne Tiernan.

Did John Taylor Murder Leanne Tiernan?

Tiernan, who was sixteen at the time, had been buying Christmas presents with a friend as they drove home.

She got off the bus in the suburb of Bramley, near her friend’s house, where the two split.

Leanne Tiernan made her way home, a journey she would never end.

West Yorkshire Police conducted one of the largest manhunts in their history, searching over 10,000 homes, 142 commercial properties and draining a canal.

However, that did not bring her any closer to the whereabouts of the young girl.

Eight months later, Tiernan’s body was found near Otley on the West-North Yorkshire border, wrapped in nine plastic bags tied with twine.

Forensic analysis of the body led police to John Taylor.

The ensuing court case would reveal that Taylor attacked Tiernan on a poorly lit forest trail, took her to his home, and killed her.

It turns out he had kept them in a freezer for months before disposing of the body.

Where is John Taylor now?

Taylor was found guilty of the kidnapping and murder of Leanne Tiernan and was sentenced to life in prison in 2002.

After his arrest, police began an investigation into unsolved sexual assaults in the area.

Less than a year after his conviction, police convicted Taylor of two other rapes dating back to the 1980s with another life sentence.

He was also found guilty of possession of a number of assault weapons, further assault, unlawful wounding and kidnapping.

DNA testing linked him to the unsolved crimes and revealed the full extent of John Taylor’s calculating, depraved nature.

Judge Robin Mairs said Taylor was responsible for a “20-year campaign of rape and sexual assault against women and children, fueled by a sadistic desire to inflict pain for sexual gratification.”
