Who is Henry Cuellar?

Texas Representative Henry Cuellar was one of eight children born to parents in Laredo, Texas. His parents met at Guerrero Viejo in Mexico and then immigrate to the United States, where they become naturalized citizens.

Cuellar’s father used his experience working on farms in Mexico to find work as a farmer in Mexico. Utah, Idaho, and Colorado before finally taking root in Laredo, Texas.

As Cuellar grew up, he says on his website that his parents instilled in him a “passion for education and a relentless work ethic.”

He earned a degree from Laredo Community College and attended Georgetown University in Washington DC to pursue her Bachelor’s degree.

After earning her Bachelor’s degree, Cuellar studied International Trade at Texas A&M International University for a Master’s degree and continued on to the University of Texas at Austin for Juris and Ph. in government.

What are Henry Cuellar’s political views?

Cuellar has served as a member of parliament since 2005 and he was re-elected to the seat in 2020.

He describes himself as a moderate, aka a conservative democracy.

The lone star state has many pro-gun rights, and Cuellar’s belief system matches that of the community.

He talked to New York Times in 2019 to protect gun use in Texas. “This is not New York, this is Texas,” Cuellar said. “So you talk about guns, you talk about God, you talk about trucks.”

As school shootings increased, Cuellar said at the time, “I want sensible gun reform. But I’m not going to take guns away from people like they want to do.”

In September 2021, Cuellar became the only congressional Democrat to vote against the Women’s Health Protection Act.

“It’s called conscience,” Cuellar said LMT Online. “I am a Catholic, and I believe in the right and the right to life. … Sometimes people vote because of (opinion) politics, they think this is a Democratic or Republican issue. For me, it’s a matter of conscience.”
