Who is Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas?

Born on June 23, 1948, Clarence Thomas grew up in Pin Point, Georgia.

After attending St Pius X High School, Thomas transferred to St John Vianney Minor Seminary.

He continued his studies at the University of Conception Seminary, before enrolling at the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts.

In 1974, Thomas received his Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School.

After passing the bar exam, Thomas worked as the Assistant Attorney General of Missouri.

He went on to serve as a legislative assistant to the Senate Commerce Committee, before joining the Reagan administration as Assistant Secretary of Education for the Office of Civil Rights in the United States Department of Education.

Thomas later chaired the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

On October 30, 1989, Thomas was appointed by former President George HW Bush to the United States Court of Appeals for the Columbia Circuit.

Two years later, in October 1991, Thomas was sworn in United States Supreme Court.

The tweet continued: “A Court spokesman told [Jan Crawford] hospitalized? Covid related.”

A press release attached to the tweet read: “Justice Clarence Thomas has been admitted to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington DCon Friday night after experiencing flu-like symptoms.

“He has undergone tests, has been diagnosed with an infection and is being treated with intravenous antibiotics.

“His symptoms are in remission, he is resting comfortably and he is expected to be discharged in a day or two.”

The statement continued: “Justice Thomas will participate in the review and discussion of any circumstances in which he is not present on the basis of summaries, transcripts and audio of oral arguments. “
