Who is Stacey Baca?

Stacey Baca, 47, joined ABC7 Chicago Eyewitness News in 2002 and has been a co-anchor on ABC7’s weekend news programs for the past 20 years.

She covered a variety of stories on the network, including the Chicago Cubs Cubs’ 2016 World Series win, the deaths of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, the Covid-19 pandemic and more.

Before joining ABC 7 News, Baca was a presenter and reporter at KNSD in San Diego, California.

She began her journalism career in her native Colorado as a newspaper reporter, working for the Brighton Standard Blade.

Baca attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and after college was a staff writer at the Denver Post.

Baca has been married to her husband Todd Gilchrist, a retired Navy aviator, for 25 years.

Baca’s last day to anchor Eyewitness News over the weekends is Sunday June 26th, 2022.

She shared her shocking on-air decision with viewers back in May, saying goodbye to her fans.

“I have exciting news that I want to share with you all first. I made a brave, life-changing decision to quit one of the best jobs at Chicago’s top news network,” she said in an official statement.

What are your plans for the future?

The Weekend Morning presenter cited her desire to spend more time with family as the reason for her departure.

“My husband and I want to spend more time together, more time with our family and friends. We want to have brunch with our parents on Sundays, watch our niece and nephew play sports on Saturday mornings and travel while we are healthy. God willing,” she said.

“More life, less work.”
