Who is Shaun Attwood?

Shaun Attwood is a former British drug dealer-turned YouTuber, activist and author.

Born in 1968 in Widnes, Lancashire to a “loving” middle-class family, he soon became fascinated with the stock markets.

He then studied business administration at Liverpool University, where he became consumed by the party lifestyle and began using ecstasy to relieve his anxiety.

After completing his education, he moved to Arizona with his aunt to secure a job as a stockbroker at the age of 22.

Within six years he was a millionaire and counted the likes of Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney among his neighbors.

But while he was still dabbling in the rave scene in the States, he routinely found himself at drug-crazed house parties and eventually took up dealing.

Attwood began building a drug empire that could rival even the most sophisticated operations already in existence in the United States.

He sent one of his associates to Germany or France and then on a train to Amsterdam and back through Mexico and the US border.

He said they would hide the drugs in luggage, computer towers or vitamin bottles and smuggle them through.

The ill-gotten gains led to Attwood living an exorbitantly lavish lifestyle, buying several fancy homes and traveling exclusively by limousine.

He described his ego as “big as the Grand Canyon” and felt untouchable after teaming up with the New Mexican Mafia, Arizona’s most dangerous criminal organization at the time.

He previously told The Mirror: “I thought I was Mr. Cool, the craziest partygoer.

“I was the biggest drug dealer in Arizona, and I used to do 10-20 es every weekend myself, plus GHB, crystal meth, Valium, Xanax, and ketamine. My life was out of control.”

But things started to take a turn for the worse when mafia mass murderer Sammy “The Bull” Gravano started a rival ecstasy ring – and even took a swipe at it.

At the same time, his business interests, in which he had invested most of his money, collapsed in 2000 while some of his smugglers were arrested at airports around the world.

Two years later, his empire – referred to in court as The Attwood Enterprise – finally collapsed when his home was raided by a 20-strong SWAT team.

How long did Shaun Attwood spend in prison?

Although Attwood tried to erase any connection to his life as a drug lord, he was jailed after his arrest on May 16, 2002.

He admitted to drug trafficking and money laundering and ended up serving just six years in prison.

Now he’s back in Britain, having been released in December 2007 – banned from America for life following his spectacular fall from grace.

But he’s managed to turn his life around and is an author, speaker, and prison activist.

In addition to several TEDx Talks, he also gives lectures in schools and talks to children about the consequences of drugs and crime.

Attwood, now 53, also started his own True Crime podcast and has nearly 700,000 YouTube subscribers

Is Shaun Attwood Married?
