Four years later, the talented youngster became the FIRST Norwegian to win the Amateur US Open and received invitations to the 2019 Masters tournament, the 2019 US Open and the 2019 Open Championships.

Despite tying for 32nd place with three under par at the 2019 Masters Open, his performance propelled him to number one in the world amateur golf rankings.

Additionally, Hovland’s low score of 280 at the 2019 US Open was the lowest 72-hole score by an amateur since Jack Nicklaus’ tally of 282 in 1960.

And he became the first player since Matt Kuchar in 1998 to win low amateur honors at both the Masters and US Open in the same season.

In 2020, however, Hovland became the first Norwegian to win on the PGA Tour when he won the Puerto Rico Open – followed by his second full-strength PGA Tour tournament triumph at the Mayakoba Golf Classic thanks to a birdie at 72. Hole.

Bratton said: “I love his honesty – and get the confidence to be honest. To say, ‘I suck at chipping’? No tour player will make himself so vulnerable.”

“The first European Tour event Viktor competed in showed the double pump and top-of-the-backswing he does in a real loop.”
