Penny Mordaunt met Paul Murray while studying at Reading University.

She studied philosophy at university and served as President of the Reading University Students’ Union.

When did Penny Mordaunt and Paul Murray get married?

Penny married childhood sweetheart Paul on July 31, 1999 when they were both 26 years old.

On her marriage certificate, pictured in the Daily Mail in 2014, he is listed as deputy hall manager, while her occupation is press secretary.

A friend of the MP told the Mail it was “prohibited” to talk about the marriage.

Paul is the son of retired Lieut Col Leonard Murray.

The couple divorced a year after their marriage in 2000.

Penny later met Ian Lyon, a classical singer, and the couple dated for a long time.

Penny, MP for Portsmouth North since 2010, became a familiar face on British television after appearing on ITV’s Splash! in which she famously hit a spectacular belly flop.

Penny has no children but is a cat fan and breeds Burmese cats in her home.
