Who is Michael Kay’s wife Jodi Applegate?

Jodi Applegate is originally from Pennsylvania but moved to New York while attending New York University.

She graduated from school with a bachelor’s degree in film and television and landed a job at NBC and Fox in 1996, where she stayed for more than a decade.

Applegate joined WPIX TV in 2010, where she took up the position of solo news anchor at the channel.

However, she only stayed in the role for two years, leaving in 2012 when she was due to have her first child, born to a gestational carrier.

The Daily News reported at the time that Applegate had asked WPIX to reduce their hours after maternity leave, but the broadcaster reportedly declined.

It was then that Applegate made the decision to step down and quit the position despite the coveted position she held.

“It was an all-or-nothing deal,” Applegate told The Daily News. “They offered me a new contract, but I felt that I had put my career before life for so many years that it was time to focus on something else.”

Applegate said if she had stayed on the station, she would never have been able to see her family.

“It’s a full-time job plus responsibility for two shows and the night shift,” she said, adding that other networks regularly have two presenters, but being the sole presenter leaves little room for flexibility.

She joined Clarity Media Group in June 2013 as a communications consultant and, according to LinkedIn, her role is to “advise and coach clients on media appearances, presentations, public speaking and interviewing techniques.”

“It was a very difficult decision,” Applegate had told The Daily News of changing careers. “But it seemed like a natural moment in my career to step down.”

Michael Kay met Jodi Applegate at the local Emmy Awards in New York and after their brief encounter, he couldn’t stop talking about her on his radio show.

Applegate’s producer told her about Kay’s comments and she called him to tease him for his comments, but once they hit it off, Kay went into a relationship.

He proposed in 2010 and they tied the knot a year later at The Plaza. Kay was 56 when he married Applegate, then 46, and the two had a terrific affair and were married by then-Mayor Rudy Guiliani.

Former MLB Yankee Darryl Strawberry told the New York Post, “This is a great day for Michael Kay. “He’s been waiting for the right one for so long. It’s incredible.”

Michael Kay is the sports channel for MLB team the New York Yankees and host of The Michael Kay Show, a weekday sports talk show on ESPN Radio and has won numerous awards over the years.

He was inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016 and the New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2018.
