A manhunt was ongoing for a week after Dixon was fatally shot when Loyd was spotted in a Walmart when the buyer notified Police Lieutenant Clayton, who was at the scene.

Debra Clayton worked for the Orlando Police Department for 17 years before she was fatally shot by Markeith Loyd.

On January 9, 2017, Clayton was shot dead in the parking lot of a Walmart at the intersection of Princeton Street and John Young Parkway after attempting to arrest Loyd for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Sade Dixon.
