Knoxville, 51, was aptly born Philip John Clapp on March 11, 1971 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
After graduating from South-Young High School, he decided to move to California to pursue acting.

He gave creator Jeff Tremaine the idea of testing self-defense gear on himself.
Knoxville is best known for his time on the MTV show Jackass.

Jackass premiered on MTV in 2000 and ran for three seasons over two years.

A fourth Jackass film premiered on October 22, 2021.
On May 20, 2022, Netflix released Jackass 4.5, a new feature film starring the original Jackass crew.
The streaming company shared a glimpse of the new film on Twitter on April 19.
“Get ready for more stunts and goofs with Jackass 4.5, a brand new feature film featuring the entire crew! Here’s a little taste of what you can expect when it premieres on Netflix on May 20th… It’s the Swingset Gauntlet!”
In the video, people swing on swings while the crew try not to get hit as they slide by.
Jackass 4.5 is now streaming on Netflix with a runtime of 90 minutes.

Knoxville was interviewed for GQ in May 2021 to talk about the film’s October release this year.
He spoke about the many injuries resulting from the various stunts he has performed, including one that resulted in him having to use a catheter for three years.
At the time of the injury, Knoxville recalled thinking, “At the time I was like, ‘I can’t wait to tell this story. Everyone loves a good story.”
He continued, “I feel like the hurts I share with people. Because, I mean, they kind of happen publicly,” he said.
“You can only take so many risks before something irreversible happens.
“I feel like I was very fortunate to take the risks I took and still walk around.”
