Bridges, 73, was named a recipient of the prestigious award at the 28th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards. The event took place on Sunday, January 15th at The Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Bridges, who hails from Los Angeles, was presented with the award by his The Big Lebowski co-star John Goodman.
During his speech, Jeff Bridges took time to thank his family as well as his late father for encouraging Jeff’s pursuit of acting.

On March 10, 1998, Lloyd Bridges died of natural causes, despite suffering from intermittent minor illnesses for the year before his death, reports The Washington Post. He was 85 years old when he died.
Lloyd Bridges died at his Los Angeles home with wife Dorothy, Beau and Cindy by his side.
Dorothy Bridges died on February 16, 2009 from “causes of old age,” reports the Los Angeles Times. She died at the age of 93 in the home where she and Lloyd Bridges raised their three children.
Jeff Bridges’ father is the “reason” for his acting success
Last Sunday (January 15, 2023), which would have been Lloyd Bridges’ 110th birthday, his son Jeff paid tribute to him at the Critics’ Choice Awards.
In his Lifetime Achievement Award acceptance speech, the True Grit actor admitted that without his father’s encouragement, he would not have had such success.
“Today, January 15th, is my father’s birthday. I wear his cufflinks. I wouldn’t be up here without my dad,” Bridges said.
“He’s the reason I’m up here. I can remember he loved showbiz so much, loved acting so much, and as a kid I was like, ‘You know Dad, I’m not sure I want to be an actor.’ […] He said, “Jeff, don’t be ridiculous. As an actor, you are encouraged to do whatever things you are interested in doing. And you’ll also be able to tell all these wonderful stories from all these different perspectives of living people. It’s a wonderful job’.”
