According to LadBible, Shapps’ net worth is around US$1.5million (£1.3million), making him one of the wealthiest MPs.

This wealth comes from his long-standing role as an MP, as well as many business ventures.

At the age of 21 he founded his own printing company.

Shapps resigned as director in 2009 but remained the controlling shareholder.

He also founded a web publishing company, How To Corp Limited, and remained a director until 2008, with his wife taking over the position until it was wound up in 2014.

In February 2015, Shapps tried to clear up rumors about his dealings, saying: “I don’t have a second job and have never had a second job while I was an MP. End of the story.”

He served as Shadow Housing Minister in 2007 before becoming Minister of State for Housing in the 2010 election.

In Cameron’s first major reshuffle in 2012, Shapps was named co-chair of the Conservative Party.

In May 2015, the MP resigned as Minister of State and was fired from the cabinet over allegations of bullying, which he had ignored.

The Remainer returned to Cabinet in 2019 following the election of Boris Johnson as Transport Secretary.

He retained that position through the 2020 and 2021 cabinet reshuffles.

During the coronavirus pandemic, he was responsible for the government’s traffic light system, which divided countries into red, yellow and green categories and issued specific regulations for British travelers returning from those countries.

He announced a £250m plan in May 2020 to invest in cycle lanes and trial e-scooters on UK roads.

Is Grant Shapps running as Prime Minister?

Following Boris Johnson’s resignation, Shapps announced that he would throw his hat in the ring to become the leader of the Conservative Party, and by extension the Prime Minister.

His announcement came on July 9, 2022, along with a number of Tory MPs.

The race grew to 11 candidates including Jeremy Hunt, Sajid Javid and Nadhim Zahwi.

Shapps dropped out on July 12, instead pledging to support front-runner Rishi Sunak.

She was by his side when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in 1999.

In 2012, Shapps hailed his wife for her support during this time, telling the Guardian: “She said to me you can’t die, we have too much to do together.

“She was brilliant.”

The couple have three children – a boy named Hadley and twins Tabytha and Noa.

As a result of his chemotherapy treatment, the boys were conceived through IVF.
