The Pole is one of the most experienced and respected in world football and referees the biggest game of all – the final between Argentina and France.

Marciniak featured in midfield in France’s 2-1 win over Denmark in the group stage and in Argentina’s round of 16 win over Australia.
Who is Szymon Marciniak?
Plock-born Marciniak had a strange path to becoming a referee.
He started out as a player and was so disgusted at being sent off in a game that he tiraded in a foul language to the referee that he was the worst he had ever seen.
And the officer said, “If you think you can do better – try it!”
He did.
Rising through the amateur ranks, Marciniak made his Ekstraklasa debut in 2009.
He became a Fifa-listed referee in 2011, qualifying him for selection in the Europa League, Champions League and internationals.
After taking charge of the final of the 2015 U21 European Championship, he celebrated his big title win in France the following summer.
There, Marciniak faced Spain against the Czech Republic in the group stage, Iceland against Austria and Germany against Slovakia in the knockout stages.

Has he ever officiated at the World Cup?
This is the Pole’s second World Cup experience after showing his cards in Russia in 2018.
He has experience at Euro 2016 – but took charge of games from Liverpool, Manchester City and Spurs in this year’s Champions League.
At the 2018 World Cup, he faced Argentina against Iceland and Germany against Sweden.
He also officiated the 2018 UEFA Supercup match between Real and Atletico Madrid.
