Who is Franklin Floyd?
Franklin Floyd, born June 17, 1943, is an American criminal from Barnesville, Georgia.
On February 19, 1960, he had his first collision with the law after breaking into a Sears in California.
A year later, police arrested Floyd again for violating his suspended sentence stemming from his first offence.
In 1962 he was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison for kidnapping and child molestation.

In November 1972, the criminal was arrested again for attempting to sexually assault a woman at a gas station.
On June 11, 1973, an arrest warrant was issued for Floyd after he was on the run and became a fugitive of the law.
When did Floyd kidnap Sharon Marshall?
In 1974, he was living in Dallas, Texas with his wife, Sandi Chipman, using the alias Brandon Williams.
Under the Brandon identity, Floyd met Sandi in North Carolina.
After dating for some time, he convinced her to uproot their four children and move to Texas with him.
In 1975, Sandi was sentenced to 30 days in prison for bad checks.
In the middle of her 30-day sentence, Floyd left their home and kidnapped their four children.
He released the three younger children and kept their eldest sister, Suzanne.

The criminal then changed Suzanne’s name to Sharon Marshall and posed as her father in the years that followed.
While under Floyd’s kidnapping, he and Suzanne went by a number of different names.
Sometime around the time they married, Suzanne went by the alias Tonya Hughes.
In April 1990, she was found critically injured in a hit-and-run accident 100 miles outside of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Three people alerted law enforcement about what they saw, which led to police officers taking her to hospital – where she was presumed dead.
Where is Floyd now?
In September 2002, Floyd was tried for the 1989 murder of Cheryl Ann Commesso and the kidnapping of 6-year-old Michael Anthony Hughes.
Cheryl was an associate of Suzanne’s when they both worked at a strip club in Tampa, Florida.
By the time Suzanne met Cheryl, she was already changing her alias from Sharon Marshall to Tonya Hughes.
Using the alias Tonya, Suzanne gave birth to a baby boy named Michael – who was also believed to be Floyd’s son until DNA testing after Sharon’s death proved otherwise.
On September 12, 1994, Floyd abducted Michael from his elementary school and the child has not been found since.
The killer didn’t reveal any information about what happened in the kidnapping of the child until 2015 – when he admitted to shooting Michael the same day he went missing.
At his trial, the kidnapper was convicted of both the murder of Cheryl and the kidnapping of Michael.
The murderer’s trial ended with convictions and he was sentenced to death, awaiting execution since 2002.

He is awaiting execution at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida.
The horrors inflicted by Franklin Floyd on Sharon Marshall, her son Michael and colleague Cheryl were all retold in the 2022 Netflix documentary, Girl in the Picture.
