THE NEW Netflix docuseries Mr Good: Cop or Crook premieres June 3, 2022.
The show stars infamous Scandinavian police officer and convicted drug dealer Eirik Jensen, playing himself.
Who is Eirik Jensen?
Eirik Jensen joined the police force in 1977 and was quickly promoted to superintendent overseeing the crime department.
He had a reputation as the top officer in Oslo, Norway, and had been a police officer for 30 years when he was accused of drug trafficking in 2013.
He was accused of smuggling hashish between 2003 and 2012, and prosecutors claimed Jensen took bribes and helped drug smugglers.
Jensen vehemently rejected the allegations against him and left the group a year later.
He officially retired in 2016 shortly after being charged with drug trafficking and corruption.
In 2017, Jensen was tried and convicted on all charges, in what became the first high-profile case involving a police officer in Norway.
Reuters reported that the court found that Jensen had received bribes of at least 667,800 kroner, or approximately $70,744, into smuggling tons of hash into the country.
He received the maximum sentence of 21 years in prison and reading the sentence, Oslo District Court Judge Kim Heger said: “This case is unique in Norwegian legal history.
“Jensen has actively and consciously contributed to a well-organized and extensive import of hashish.”
Jensen’s attorney, John Christian Elden, told reporters, “We lost the battle, but we hope to win the war,” adding, “There will be an appeal.”
They appealed the conviction, but in 2020 Jensen was still found guilty on all charges and his sentence was reinstated without the possibility of a further appeal.
Where is he now?
Jensen, now 64, is serving his 21-year sentence at Kongsvinger Prison in Norway and has been writing an autobiography since his conviction.
The book was published in 2015 and is entitled På innsiden, which translates to “Inside”.
A year later he wrote and published his second book, a crime novel entitled Attentatet (The Assassination).
Jensen will now star as himself in the new four-part Netflix docu-series Mr Good: Cop or Crook, which will air on June 3, 2022.
The series will explore the crimes Jensen was convicted of and delve into his story.
“The story of Eirik Jensen has fascinated the Norwegian public for many years,” producer Bendik Mondal told The Sun.
He added, “We believe this story deserves to be told in a broader context, and we’re thrilled to be working with Netflix.”
This series is both a portrait of a man and an insight into one of Norway’s most talked about crimes in recent times.”
Where can I watch Mr Good: Cop or Crook?
The documentary series Mr Good: Cop or Crook will air exclusively on Netflix on June 3, 2022.
The Netflix synopsis says viewers will be captivated by the question that has plagued Norway since 2013. “Is Eirik Jensen the best police officer in Norwegian history or is he actually the greatest drug dealer Scandinavia has ever seen?”
It adds: “With unique access to both Eirik Jensen, this documentary series features charismatic, colorful characters and tells their incredible story from when they first met in the ’90s to their possible demise in the courtroom in 2020.
“Viewers will be wondering until the end – who is telling the truth?”
