On July 18, 2001, Donald Grant was accused of robbing a La Quinta Inn in Del City, Oklahoma.
Two women were murdered at the time of the robbery: Brenda McElyea, 29, and Felicia Suzette Smith, 43.
Donald Grant was 25 years old at the time of the robbery, according to NY Post.
The women are said to have suffered both gunshot and stab wounds.
Grant was arrested after being found in New York by members of the US Marshals’ task force.
“So I’m sitting in the house cleaning guns with the mind-set of killing anyone who’s there,” he wrote in a confession letter at the time, according to Oklahomans.

On Monday, January 24, 2022, a panel of three judges in the 10th U.S. Court of Appeals rejected Grant’s motion to postpone the execution date.
The panel of judges ruled the lawyers were unable to prove U.S. Judge Stephen Friot abused his discretion in dismissing a petition for lethal injection.
Judge Friot previously dismissed claims around the drugs and said midazolam, a sedative used for lethal injections in Oklahoma, was credible.
Attorneys at the time argued that midazolam carried the risk of severe pain.
