After an intensive two-week search, Danelo Cavalcante was captured in the United States.
What was Danelo Cavalcante convicted of?
Danelo Cavalcante is a Brazilian native who was convicted of first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend Deborah Brandão to death in April 2021.
Cavalcante is said to have committed the crime in front of Deborah’s two young children.
According to prosecutors, she believes the Brazilian national wanted to stop her from telling police about an alleged murder in 2017.
At the time, Danelo was said to have fled Brazil for Puerto Rico in 2017 after the crime later made its way to the United States.


Who is Danelo Cavalcante’s mother?
After Cavalcante’s escape from prison, many turned to his mother, Iracema, who still lives in Brazil.
In conversation with The New York TimesIracema spoke out about her son’s crime.
Like any mother, Iracema defended her son, saying, “He had no choice.”
“Did it happen? It happened. But it happened because she had a stranglehold on her.” [Deborah] “I was attracted to him, the attitude she took towards him,” Iracema told the outlet.
“It wasn’t femicide. He had to do it, he had no other choice.”
Although she agreed that Cavalcante should face the consequences of his actions, she believes a life sentence is too harsh a punishment.
Iracema said: “If I said my son didn’t make a mistake, I would be lying. I know what my son did was wrong. I know my son should pay for his mistake.”
“But I want my son to pay for his mistake with dignity and not with his life.”
When was Danelo Cavalcante captured?
Danelo Cavalcante was captured on September 13, 2023 near South Coventry Township, Pennsylvania.
His arrest comes two weeks after he was caught on video escaping from the Chester County Jail in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
He was spotted several times during the search. However, he managed to evade power until his capture.
After his arrest, Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said, “Our nightmare is finally over.”
