He was found in an SUV that authorities were looking for in connection with the kidnapping of Memphis mother-of-two Eliza Fletcher.

On Sunday September 4, 2022, Cleotha Abston was arrested and charged with particularly aggravated kidnapping and evidence tampering after Eliza Fletcher was kidnapped.

The Memphis Police Department said, “The investigation into the kidnapping of Eliza Fletcher is still active and ongoing. Investigators are continuing the search and are following up on any leads.”

Mario Abston, 36, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture and sale fentanyl, possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture and sale heroin and convicted felon of possession of a firearm while committing a dangerous felony charged.

Both men were sentenced to the Shelby County Jail.

What happened to Eliza Fletcher?

Eliza Fletcher, a preschool teacher and married mother of two, was abducted while jogging in the early hours of September 2, 2022 in the city of Memphis, Tennessee.

She was reported missing after failing to return home from the escape.

The 34-year-old comes from a prominent Memphis family and is the granddaughter of a well-known philanthropist and business owner – the late hardware magnate Joseph “Joe” Orgill III.

On September 2, 2022, Eliza Fletcher was jogging near the University of Memphis when she was forced into a dark-colored SUV.

At the time of the kidnapping, Fletcher, who is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 137 pounds and is blonde, was wearing colorful shorts and a sports bra.

An unidentified person is seen being pushed into the vehicle after a brief struggle around 4:30am.

Her phone was discovered by detectives after it was thrown on the ground and smashed in the process.

Police have camped outside the family’s Midtown Memphis home, where Fletcher lives with her eight-year-old husband, Richard “Richie” Fletcher III, and their two children.

Another group of officers set up another site in Overton Park, not far from their home.

Eliza’s family have desperately pleaded with the kidnappers and announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to her return.

They said, “We look forward to Eliza’s safe return and hope this award will help police catch those who committed this crime.”
