Who is Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson?

William Asa Hutchinson II, 71, is known for his career in politics.

Before becoming Governor of Arkansas, he was a lawyer and businessman.

According to his biography, he was appointed US Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas by Ronald Reagan and later director of the Drug Enforcement Administration and Department of Homeland Security by George W. Bush.

He is also known as the current chairman of the National Governors Association.

Does Asa Hutchinson Support Donald Trump?

Hutchinson is a member of the Republican Party, but in July 2022 he announced that he would not support Donald Trump if he seeks re-election in 2024.

His comments were made during an appearance on CBS Mornings, where he also discussed the Jan. 6 Capitol Riots.

“As you can see from the testimony on January 6th, then and after the election, where he questioned the legality of the lawful transfer [power] – yes, that was a threat to our democracy. It was a threat to our governing institutions.” said Hutchinson.

“And that’s not the behavior we want to see in a responsible president.”

He added that he “wouldn’t support it [Trump] for 2024” because he “acted irresponsibly”.

“During that time he was absolutely a risk to the nation,” Hutchinson continued.

Hutchinson has considered running for president in 2024, but as of this writing, he hasn’t made an official announcement.

Is Asa Hutchinson Married?

When Hutchinson is not in the office, he usually spends time with his wife, Susan.

The two first married in 1973 after meeting at school.

In addition to being the wife of Governor Hutchinson, she was a lifelong advocate for children and served as a school teacher on the board of directors of the Benton County Children’s Advocacy Center.

Susan is also the mother of Hutchinson’s four children, Asa III, Seth, Sarah and John.
