Who is Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge?

Rutledge is a popular lawyer and politician who was born on June 9, 1976 in Batesville, Arkansas.

After graduating from the University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law, she began her legal career, according to her biography, at the Arkansas Court of Appeals as a clerk for Judge Josephine Hart.

She was later sworn in as Arkansas’ 56th Attorney General in 2015, becoming the first woman since Mary Stallcup to hold the position.

Rutledge was then re-elected in 2018 to a second term ending January 10, 2023.

In October 2022, Rutledge sat down with political commentator Jon Stewart on his Apple TV show The Problem With Jon Stewart, where they discussed, among other things, Arkansas’ controversial ban on gender-affirming grooming.
