Beverly Crowl, 69, KNOWN as the local police force’s mother hen in Independence, Missouri, was a beloved retired police officer.

When police investigated, they linked her murder to a group of men who were part of a local gang, all of which will be revealed in the final season of Netflix’s I Am a Killer.

Who is Anthony Standifer?

Anthony Standifer reportedly led the gang that broke into Beverly Crowl’s home.

Before joining the Kansas City Crips gang at age 14, he was tossed between family members and foster families.

According to Standifer, his mother was unable to care for him because of her drug abuse, and his father never claimed him as his son.

This is a tragedy in itself, but gang involvement didn’t just end in tragedy for Standifer.

What happened to Beverly Crowl?

The group’s mission on March 19, 2010 was not to break into Crowl’s home.

They planned to meet a suspected local drug dealer and steal $70,000 in cash and 15 pounds of marijuana.

In a mistake that would eventually cost Crowl her life, the men arrived in their neighborhood, unsure which house belonged to the drug dealer.

Beverly and the drug dealer happened to be driving similar cars, which led the men to their front door.

As the group pounded on her door, Beverly, terrified, called her twin sister.

It was the last phone call Beverly would ever make when the front door was broken down and she began pleading for her life.

Since she lived alone and was a pensioner, there weren’t many valuables in the house for the men to take from her.

Standifer was on parole and decided Beverly had to die for seeing their faces.

According to police reports, it appeared Beverly was shot execution-style.

Police finally pieced the story together when they were informed that a local gang had planned to rob a drug dealer.

They connected the vicinity of the drug dealer’s address with Beverly’s, and from there the dominoes fell into place.

Standifer was interrogated, where he initially pleaded his innocence but then admitted to killing the former employee.

Where is Anthony Standifer today?

Standifer was charged with one count of second-degree murder, one first-degree robbery and two counts of armed crimes.

He was charged and sentenced to two life terms plus 60 years.

This means he will never be eligible for parole and will spend the rest of his life in prison at Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston, Missouri.
