Deji had participated in boxing matches before and fought on the big hand, but this was Wassabi’s first time in the ring in front of a large crowd.

But who is the internet celebrity, and when did he become famous?

Who is Alex Wassabi?

Alex Wassabi’s real name is Alex Burriss, and is best known for his online presence as a social media star in the US, primarily on YouTube.

Wassabi’s videos became popular after he recorded a parody of Carly Rae Jepsen’s song ‘Call Me Maybe’ in 2012.

Since then, Wassabi’s career has skyrocketed and he has millions, 11.5 million subscribers on YouTube to be exact.

The 31-year-old was born in Great Fall, Montana and raised with two brothers and one sister.

Wassabi was also very popular on Twitter, TikTok, Instagram and also became famous on Vine when the video sharing platform was still in existence.

Since founding his YouTube channel, Wassabi’s work has garnered more than 4.5 billion views.

Wassabi has also released several music singles, including ‘My Side’ and ‘What It Is’ in 2017.

Although Wassabi had never fought before, he certainly exuded confidence for his clash with Deji on March 5.

“Honestly, everything Deji put out made me less and less stressed,” he said.

“Everybody gets nervous before a fight, even Mike Tyson says he cried before a fight at the end of his career.

“I started to get nervous when announcements were made like ‘oh, it’s happening, it’s happening,’ and then every time he said something, I was like ‘why is he? bring that up?’

“Especially his last video, he left it again and again!”
