Whoopi Goldberg has been married three times.

Her ex-husbands include: Alvin Martin, David Claessen and Lyle Trachtenberg.

Alvin Martin

Even though Goldberg has been married three times, she only has one child — her daughter, Alex, from her first marriage to Alvin Martin.

Best known as Goldberg’s former drug counsellor, Martin tied the knot with the Goldberg in 1973.

The pair lasted six years before filing for a divorce in 1979.

Martin has reportedly never remarried.

David Claessen

Seven years after her divorce from Martin, Goldberg tied the knot with David Claessen.

Claessen is a Dutch cinematographer – best known for his work with Britney Spears, Travie McCoy and Jason Mraz.

After tying the knot in 1986, the couple decided to split in 1988.

Claessen later went onto to marry British-American writer Taiye Selasi in 2013 before filing for a divorce in 2015.

Lyle Tractenberg

In 1994, Goldberg tied the knot with actor and an ITSE union organizer Lyle Tractenberg.

The paur were only married for a year before they called it quits.

Following a third divorce, The View host realized that marriage wasn’t right for her.

“It took me some time but I realized that trying to turn myself into something I wasn’t ready for, for a man. Wasn’t his fault. It was mine,” she said.

“My marriages failed and I was the common denominator.”

“My commitment was never that strong. I can say now that I was never really in love.”

Whoppi has since added that she will never marry again and has even asked her friends to stop her if she ever announces plans to wed for a fourth time.

She says, “If you ever hear of me walking down anybody’s aisle again, I want you to stick your leg out and trip me.

“Some people are not meant to be married and I am not meant to. I’m sure it is wonderful for lots of people.”
