Who are Tire Nichols’ parents?
Tire Nichols is survived by his mother, RowVaughn Wells, and stepfather, Rodney Wells.
Following the death of 29-year-old Tyre, his parents have spoken out in their son’s honor.
During a news conference, RowVaughn told reporters, “I know everyone says they had a good son, and any son is good. But my son, he was actually a good boy.
“No mother should have to go through that. I don’t have my baby, I will never have my baby again.

“My son was a beautiful soul and he touched everyone. Nobody’s perfect, but he was damn close.
“Does that sound like someone the police are saying did all these bad things?”
During a meeting with Don Lemon and CNN, she said, “He just had a beautiful soul and he touched a lot of people.
“I will never get a hug from my son again, I will never get anything from my son again just because some officials decided to harm my son.
“I’m still trying to understand all of this and trying to take care of all of this. It’s still like a nightmare right now.”

Recalling the anniversary of her son’s death at the aforementioned outlet, RowVaughn recalled, “The doctor went on to tell me that my son had gone into cardiac arrest and that his kidneys were failing.
“It doesn’t sound consistent when someone is being tased or pepper sprayed,” she recalls of what the police originally told her.
“When my husband and I got to the hospital and I saw my son, he was already gone. They beat him to a pulp.
“He was bruised all over, his head was swollen like a watermelon.
“His neck burst from the swelling. They broke his neck, my son’s nose looked like an S.”
The grieving mother explained: “They basically just beat him to death.
“Even if he had survived, he would have been a vegetable. They hit my son like a piñata.
“Now that I’m actually putting things together, I think they tried to cover it up when they first came to my door.
“I knew something was wrong. I just didn’t understand why they stopped my son in the first place.”
What did his parents say about the bodycam recordings?
On January 27, 2023, court officials announced that police bodycam footage of the police confrontations that led to Tire’s death would be released to the public.
However, RowVaughn and Rodney were able to view the footage before it was released to the public.
Rodney revealed he watched the clips for him and his wife because RowVaughn was too upset to watch the bodycam videos.
He told CNN, “She heard a word and had to leave the room.
“At that time they first pulled him out of the car, he said, ‘What have I done?’
“They yanked him out of the car and tried to wrestle him to the ground.
“He was afraid. So he was athletic enough to get out of their situation and run.”
The victim’s stepfather added: “He was trying to run home because he was three blocks from the house when they stopped him.
“I saw officers hit him, I saw officers kick him.
“An officer kicked him a couple of times like he was kicking a football.

“No one tried to stop it. Even after they hit him and leaned against the car, no one helped him.
“They walked around smoking cigarettes like all was quiet and bragging about what happened.”
