Who Are the Oregon State University Cheerleaders?

Oregon State’s cheerleading and dance teams often get together to perform routines.

There is a mixed stunt cheer team, an all-girl dance team, and an all-girl cheer team.

When applying for the squad, you have to choose from one position:

  • dancer
  • male stunt
  • Female base/back/stunter
  • Top/Flyer

Tumbling is required to be in one of the Cheer Squads.

What commitments are required of the cheerleaders and dance team?

The students that make up these squads are also known for being motivated in the classroom and for being leaders in their communities.

To apply for one of the squads, you must provide a character reference that certifies your ambition, drive, and ability to work in a team.

They all attend and cheer on the home football games, while the mixed team and dance team perform at the men’s basketball games.

The all-female Cheer Squad performs at the women’s basketball games.

They all also make regular appearances at public events and help run a college cheerleading camp on their Corvallis, Oregon campus each summer.

Why is Oregon’s mascot a beaver?

The mascot of the state of Oregon is Benny Beaver.

Benny Beaver is also an iconic part of Oregon history.

Historians say beavers were hunted and sold when the state was first developed, sought for their coats.

Today, beavers are protected in the Pacific Northwest.

The beaver first became part of OSU history in 1909 when the students renamed their school yearbook The Beaver.
