While countries like France, England, Brazil and Argentina were considered favorites for the tournament, it’s been a mixed bag so far.

Lionel Messi’s side, favorites going to Qatar, suffered a surprise defeat by Saudi Arabia in their first game, putting their place on the line – but Argentina won their second game.

They still have to qualify, but let’s see who has already made it to the next round and has one game left.

Which teams qualified for the round of 16?

Group A

Netherlands secured a place in the last 16 with a 2-0 win over hosts Qatar, leaving Louis Van Gaal’s side topping the group.

Senegal also confirmed their place in the knockout stages after defeating Ecuador.

Both sides meet their opponents TONIGHT in the Group B final, with Senegal meeting the winner and the Netherlands meeting the runners-up.

Group B

England qualified for the round of 16 and defeated Wales 3-0 to send their compatriots home.

United States of America join the Three Lions in the knockout stages and beat Iran 1-0 to set up a clash with the Netherlands.


Group C

Although many backed Argentina to easily qualify from Group C, Saudi Arabia gave them a loss in the first game but a win over Mexico earned them three points.

Poland are top of the table with four points, while Argentina and Saudi Arabia are in Group C with three points and Mexico with a single point.

Group D

France became the first nation to advance to the next round and the world champions are on course to reclaim their title in 2022.

Australia surprisingly finished second in the group after beating Tunisia, but need a result against Denmark if they want to take on France in the next round.

Group E

Everything is open for a place in the final of Group E, in which Germany is surprisingly bottom of the table.

Loss to Japan put their World Cup dreams in jeopardy, but a Spain-Costa Rica draw against Japan means they can still go through and Spain could still fall out of the group despite being top.

Group F

No team has qualified for the Group F round of 16, but Canada is out.

Croatia leads with four points, as does Morocco, and on the last day they meet Belgium, third with three points.

If Morocco beat Canada, they will secure their place in the round of 16 and Belgium will need to beat Croatia to progress.

Group G

Brazil are through after winning both games and picking up six points.

Switzerland remains second with three points, Cameroon and Serbia could still qualify depending on the result.

Bruno Fernandes’ clasp saw Portugal seal their place in the next round and sit at the top of Group H with six points.
