Who does Prince William support?
William is a supporter of Aston Villa and has been present at many of their games over the past two decades.
Explaining his reasons for supporting Villa, he said he didn’t want to follow in the footsteps of schoolmates who all chose to support Manchester United or Chelsea.
Prince William said: “A long time ago I got big into football at school. I looked around for clubs.
“All my friends at school were either Manchester United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn’t want to follow the wheel of the mill.
“I wanted a team that was more in the middle and could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.
“Aston Villa has always had a great history. I have friends of mine who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I attended was Bolton v Aston Villa in 2000. Unfortunately Villa lost to Chelsea.
“It was amazing, I sat up with all the fans in my red cap and I sat with all the Brummie fans and had a great time.
“It was the atmosphere, the camaraderie and I really felt like there was something I could relate to.
“People like Paul Merson have played and I thought if people like him can play as well as he can, knowing the struggles he was under at the time… that’s a club I can support.
“I was also born in ’82, the year we won the (European) Cup, so I feel like the history and pedigree around Villa has always been very close to me.”
