Where is Mila Kunis from?

At only 14 years old Mila Kunis became a household name for her role as Jackie Burkhart on That 70’s show. Since the show premiered in 1998, Kunis has starred in popular films such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Ted, and Bad Moms.

As her success soars, Kunis hasn’t forgotten her humble beginnings.

Kunis was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine during the Soviet Union in 1983. During this time there was rising antisemitism in the country and as a Jewish family her parents took what little they had and went to the US.

“My parents went through hell and back. They came to America with suitcases and a family of seven and $250, and that was it,” Kunis said shine in 2016.

She said that along with her parents, herself and her brother, her grandparents traveled to the United States to seek a better life for themselves.

Her parents worked arduously to learn English and advance her career, and Kunis said her father, Mark Kunis, worked about seven jobs to keep the family afloat.

“He painted a house. He delivered toilets. He drove a cab, delivered pizza. Whatever he could, he did,” Kunis said.

Her mother, Elvira Kunis, worked as a boxing lady at Thrifty in Culver City. California. She held the position until she learned English and worked her way up to eventually becoming the manager of a Rite-Aid while her father owned taxis.

“But growing up poor, I never missed anything,” she said. “My parents did a great job in not making me feel less than any other child.”
