What is the Furby doll?
The Furby doll is a Hasbro toy originally released by Tiger Electronics in 1998.
That same year, Tiger was bought by parent company Hasbro, according to the New York Post.
Furby quickly became a huge success, selling over 40 million units worldwide in the first three years after its release.
According to Hasbro’s June 22, 2023 press release, the interactive toy features five voice-activated modes and more than 600 reactions, including sounds, lights and ten “unique” songs.
It continues, “Furby also responds to hugs, pats, tummy tickles, shakes and feeding his fake pizza magic, yum!”
“Kids can take care of Furby by feeding him, combing his furhawk and dressing him up with the included clip beads and fashion accessories.”
When will Hasbro re-launch the Furby doll and why?
As reported in the press release, Hasbro has already relaunched the Furby doll on Amazon and the toy will be available at “all major retailers” from July 15, 2023.
To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the company is bringing the iconic Furby back to life.
Kristin McKay, vice president and general manager of Hasbro Fashion & Preschool, said, “Since its groundbreaking launch in 1998, Furby has taken the world by storm, impacting every corner of the cultural zeitgeist, from music to television and film.”
“To mark the brand’s 25th anniversary, we wanted to inspire the same excitement for this new generation, harnessing Furby’s nostalgic power while giving the Alpha generation everything they crave.”

According to Amazon, the new Furby doll costs almost $100.
At the time of this writing, the Coral Furby was priced at $93, while the Purple Furby was priced at $94.
