England were among the favorites to lift the trophy in Qatar but a recent horrendous string of results has seen the Three Lions slide down the tally.

However, Harry Kane and company would have had the perfect sending off if they had made an incredible comeback against Germany.

Here’s everything you need to know about when England will name their squad and what to expect…

What date will Gareth Southgate appoint England’s squad for the 2022 World Cup?

The England squad for the tournament will be announced on Thursday 20 October.

This gives Southgate 30 days to prepare his side for the tournament, where they will face Iran, USA and Wales in Group B.

England do not play warm-up games for the tournament, so the defeat by Italy and the draw by Germany were the Three Lions’ last games before the tournament.

How many players can be named in a World Cup squad?

All 32 World Cup managers can nominate 23 to 26 players in their squad.

The deadline for announcing the World Cup squad is November 13, 2022.
