It’s the first time football’s most prestigious tournament has been played in winter, meaning a break in the Premier League.

When is the World Cup draw and when does the tournament start?

  • The group stage of the Qatar World Cup begins on Sunday 20th November.
  • This was postponed a day ahead of schedule to allow Qatar to play in the opening game.
  • The second round matches will be played between December 3rd and 6th.
  • The quarterfinals will take place on December 9th and 10th.
  • The semi-finals are scheduled for December 13th and 14th.
  • The final of this year’s World Cup will take place on December 18, just a week before Christmas.
