When is iOS 17 out and is my iPhone eligible for free upgrade?

THE brand new iPhone is just around the corner – and that means a fresh update for iOS too.
Apple has already teased some of the free extras and features we can expect.

Among them is a revamped phone app with custom contact posters, live voicemail transcripts, and AirDrop and Siri updates.
But when is iOS 17 coming and will your iPhone be ready for it?
When will iOS 17 be released?
Apple first gave us a glimpse of iOS 17 during its WWDC conference in June.
It’s common for the full release to follow sometime in the fall/autumn.
Last year, Apple launched the iPhone 14 on September 7th, the release was on September 16th.
iOS 16 was released on September 12th.
This year’s launch date for the iPhone 15 is September 12th.
According to years past, iOS 17 will come out just before the iPhone 15 release, which is September 18th or somewhere close.

But we’ll find out for sure on September 12th during the big Apple event.
