breaking Bad is heralded as one of the best TV shows of all time, and although it aired on AMC, it has become an important part of Netflix as that’s where many people watched it or were first introduced to the show. What’s more, Netflix actually produced one breaking Bad spin-off film called El Camino with Aaron Paul’s character Jesse Pinkman.
It’s kind of surprising that there are now reports that the series will be leaving Netflix in the near future. But then again, it might not be that surprising when we live in an era of streaming wars. Networks want the rights to stream their own shows, especially one as popular as breaking Bad.
AMC launched AMC+ a few years ago and is still working to improve the platform. Having that series there would be a huge win for them.
Vox previously reported on Netflix streaming breaking Bad while it was still on the air actually helped make the show such a huge success. We just didn’t get it El Caminobut the spin-off series Better call Saul was also hugely successful and, like the previous series, received critical acclaim.
When is Breaking Bad leaving Netflix?
According to a joint investigation by What’s On Netflix and The Wrap, that’s what it looks like breaking Bad is expected to leave Netflix in February 2025.
Per What’s on Netflix:
Our information suggests that Netflix will lose all five seasons of Breaking Bad as early as February 10, 2025. According to our research, this date applies to both the United States and all other international regions.
Now these preliminary reports are very early, 2025 is still a long way off and a lot could change by then. Netflix could strike a new deal with Sony Pictures Television that would allow them to keep the streaming license for the series, or maybe even share it with another streaming service like AMC+.
It’s too early to say for sure, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’ve postponed the show for any reason.
