The WENDY Williams Show ended on June 17, 2022 after 13 years in the air.
Williams was absent from the show due to health complications that prevented her from appearing in the final episode.
When did the Wendy Williams Show return?
The Wendy Williams Show began airing live episodes with a virtual audience beginning in January 2022, but officially returned on October 18, 2021.
However, Wendy Williams was absent from the show and various guest presenters filled in for her throughout the season.
The show announced on September 30 that despite being vaccinated, Williams had a breakthrough case of Covid-19 and it would have to be postponed.
“Wendy will not be returning with new shows on October 4th,” the show said in a statement, adding, “She has been, and continues to be, under medical treatment and is still not ready to return to work.”
The statement also provided an update on Williams’ health.
“Wendy remains under medical supervision and meets daily with her medical team.
“She is making progress but is suffering serious complications as a direct result of Graves’ disease and her thyroid condition.
“It has been determined that more time is needed before she can return to her live hosting duties,” it said.

“As soon as she’s ready, she’ll be back in her beloved purple chair,” the show said.
The statement also asked for privacy for Williams, stressing, “We want her health to be our top priority.”
Her Covid-19 diagnosis came just days before she was taken to hospital for “psychiatric services”, but she has since been discharged and is expected to “come back stronger than ever”.
Has Wendy Williams been replaced by Sherri Shepherd?
Williams claimed she would return to her show by mid-2022, but her return was delayed in February.
Radar Online initially reported that the hit talk show would be canceled in June 2022.
Sherri Shepherd returned to guest host The Wendy Williams Show in February, and at the beginning of the episode she told viewers, “…Starting in September, I’m debuting my own talk show, Sherri!
“I’m so excited because I’m going to be joining the Deb-Mar Mercury family — that’s the company that produces this show and several others that you love.
“I want to say to all the crazy stories on the internet that I’ve replaced Wendy, I’m here to tell you that’s not true because nobody can replace the Queen – nobody – and believe me I’m trying not at all. “
She added: “But I’m so excited that you’re going on this Sherri Show journey with me this September. The Sherri Show will look and feel different.”
What happened to Wendy Williams and is she coming back to TV?
A Wendy Williams Show spokesperson told Deadline, “The final original episode of The Wendy Williams Show will air on Friday June 17th with a video tribute to the legendary host.
“The series comes to an end after 13 successful years in syndication.”
Williams claimed during an appearance on Good Morning America in March 2022 that she would be returning to her show in three months, despite her recent health issues.
However, some reports questioned whether Williams suffered from early dementia, which her brother Tommy said was not true.
“I’m trying to make it there, and my dad talks to Wendy a lot. So no, we have no concerns about her mental health. It’s all physical,” Tommy said.
“We had no such warnings and I haven’t seen anything like it or had conversations with her that would lead me to believe that,” he added.
Williams took to Instagram to give her fans an update in November 2021, promising that she will return to her beloved purple chair in due course.
“As everyone knows, my health has been a hot topic,” she began her update. “I’m making progress, but it’s just one of those things that takes longer than expected.
“I’m a woman of a certain age and I know enough to listen to my doctors and will return to my purple chair once we all agree I’m ready.
“I want to thank all my staff and our innkeepers for standing up and stepping in while I can’t be there. I would also like to thank Debmar-Mercury and our stations for being so understanding and supportive as I make my way back.”
Williams ended her Instagram post by thanking her fans. “Most of all, I want to thank my fans. I’ve heard your prayers and comments and I feel all the love!” she gushed.
“You are everything to me. I love spending my mornings with all of you and I’m doing whatever I can to get back to work, but right now Wendy needs to focus on Wendy. I love you because you are watching.”
What illness does Wendy Williams have?
Williams initially took a hiatus from her talk show due to health concerns related to her Graves’ disease.
A spokesperson for her show told PEOPLE at the time that the star was “struggling with symptoms of her Graves’ disease, which causes fatigue.”
She also confessed to the magazine that she was diagnosed with Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism 19 years ago.
“I feel a hundred percent better than I did a few months ago. I had a storm going through my body, that’s the best way I can explain it,” Williams said at the time.
“It came from me for neglecting my six-month endocrinology appointment. I have Graves’ disease and an overactive thyroid.
“If you have one, you don’t necessarily have to have the other, but I have both and I was diagnosed with both 19 years ago,” she added.
