OPENING DAY is the term used to refer to the day that Major League Baseball teams begin their regular season.
This year’s opening day starts on Thursday April 7th and usually falls in the first week of April.

When does my team play?
On April 7th, the first nine pitchers will propose their best pitch for the starting pitches.
The following teams will be pitching on April 7th:
- Red Sox at Yankees – 1:05 p.m. ET
- Cubs at Brewers – 2.20pm
- Mets at Nationals – 4:05 p.m
- Guardian at Royals – 4:10 p.m
- Mariners at Twins – 4.10pm

- Astros at Angels – 9:38 p.m
- Padres at Diamondbacks – 9:40 p.m
The following teams will be pitching on April 8th:
- White Sox at Tigers – 1:10 p.m
- Brewers at Cubs – 2.20pm
- Athletics in Phillies – 3:05 p.m
- Orioles at Rays – 3:10 p.m
- Dodgers at Rockies – 4:10 p.m
- Marlins at Giants – 4:35 p.m
- Mets at Nationals – 7:05 p.m
- Rangers at Blue Jays – 7:07 p.m
- Reds at Braves – 7:20 p.m
- Astros at Angels – 9:38 p.m
- Padres at Diamondbacks – 9:40 p.m

When was the first ceremony on opening day?
The first opening ceremony took place on April 22, 1876.
It is also referred to as the first game in the National League.
In 1876 the ceremony took place in Philadelphia.
Boston defeated the Philadelphia Athletics 6-5 at the Jefferson Street Grounds.

Is opening day always April 7th?
The opening day traditionally takes place on April 7th or in the first week of April.
In recent years the ceremony has sometimes been held in the last week of March.
Many MLB fans consider the day a personal and national holiday.
The Atlanta Braves won the World Series in 2021 and the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020.
