CHICAGO – One of the places fans are used to seeing Michael Jordan stand out during his playing career is a cereal box in the grocery store.
The Bulls’ Hall of Famer often appeared in front of Wheaties during his time in the game when the six-time NBA Champion and five-time MVP were at their peak. Now in 2021, fans will have a chance to see the back on the cereal box again.
This week, Wheaties announced that Jordan will be featured in two boxes to celebrate the brand’s 100th anniversary. That includes a special gold leaf version that went on sale Tuesday and can be purchased in stores or online here.
Wheaties has launched a special edition box commemorating fellow sports icon Muhammad Ali.
This is Jordan’s 19th appearance on the cereal box front, with his first appearing in 1988 when he won his first NBA MVP award.
“A modern-day legend and inspiration to champions of all ages, Michael Jordan is an incredible athlete, humanitarian, and entrepreneur,” says Senior Brand Experience Manager of Michael Jordan. Wheaties Kathy Dixon said in a statement announcing the special edition box. “We are very proud to present the next box in a series of celebrations honoring one of the greatest sports stars and the most decorated Wheaties athlete in history.”
Along with the “box of the century”, Wheaties also announced that they will be sponsoring the car for Jordan’s NASCAR team “23XI” and driver Bubba Wallace for the February 27 race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.
