Who was B Smyth?
Born Brandon Smith on March 12, 1994 in Florida, B Smyth was an American hip hop and R&B artist.
Smith began his career by posting his own covers of well-known songs on YouTube and appearing on talent shows.
His success eventually landed him a record deal with Motown Records in 2012 and later with ByStorm Entertainment and RCA Records in 2015.
During his short career, he collaborated with high profile artists such as 2 Chainz and Future and also scored a Top 100 hit.

“It’s definitely awesome, especially since I’m just a fan of these guys,” he told Complex in 2013.
“Going from being a fan to being one of my colleagues and making records with them is really a blessing for me.”
What was the cause of B. Smyth’s death?
B. Smyth’s death was confirmed by his older brother Denzil in November 2022.
He revealed his sibling had passed away after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
In an emotional Instagram post sharing the heartbreaking news, Denzel said, “It’s very difficult for me to do this video because I never thought I would have to do something like this.
“We ask of you right now, in this special moment, that you respect our privacy and that we accept all the love and condolences on his behalf.”
What is pulmonary fibrosis?
The condition is a buildup of scar tissue in the lungs, making it increasingly difficult to breathe.
It typically affects people between the ages of 70 and 75 and is rare in those under the age of 50.
Some people respond well to treatment, but others get worse quickly and may develop other problems, such as chest infections or heart failure.
Before treatments such as pirfenidone and nintedanib became available, about half of those affected lived at least three years after their diagnosis.

About one in five lived longer than five years, but it is hoped that new treatments will help extend life expectancy.
Symptoms tend to worsen over time and include:
- shortness of breath
- a persistent dry cough
- fatigue
- loss of appetite and weight loss
- rounded and swollen fingertips (club fingers)
