CRISTIANO RONALDO wasn’t shy to beat Serbia’s World Cup qualifying celebrations following a shock 2-1 loss last week.
And all the time, the Portuguese players were distraught, some even in tears.
But Serbia didn’t hold back as they celebrated qualifying for successive World Cups.
Coach Fernando Santos has revealed what Ronaldo said to a Serbian player after the game.
The Portuguese boss told TVI: “It makes no sense.
“When the game was over, the disappointment was brutal.
“If it’s for the Portuguese, imagine for the players and staff. The players are already on the ground.

“I come to the pitch to support and comfort the players, he [Ronaldo] was saying to a Serbian player: ‘You wouldn’t laugh if the goal I scored wasn’t cancelled’. What I told you was give it up. “
Ronaldo is, of course, referring to the match between the two teams earlier this year, where the 36-year-old was seems to be robbed by a late winner – which should have automatically qualified Portugal for the winter tournament.
The ball appeared to have crossed the goal line before being hooked, but neither VAR nor goal line technology could solve it.
Ronaldo faced the line umpire, threw the captain’s armband on the ground and walked out onto the pitch.
Santos failed more heavily than the Manchester United striker.
He congratulates Serbia, which he says is the better team.
Santos said: “It looked like it was going to happen, but it wasn’t.
“We scored the goal, we had our initial moments. But then we started going back a lot.
“The players tried. But then we don’t turn on the game. Each time, we create problems. But most of the time we can’t.
“Serbia played better. We tried. Our DNA is to keep the ball on our feet and play. Bernardo Silva wanted the ball, but he was the only one.
“We played with fear and anxiety. That’s my responsibility.”
