‘What kind of legend are you?’

RONNIE O’SULLIVAN should retire and yet young players should thrive, says snooker star Hossein Vafaei.

The 27-year-old Iranian slammed at the six-time world champion after O’Sullivan previously said he would find another job if he were Vafaei.

O’Sullivan has also drawn the wrath of John Higgins after he suggested he would not encourage his children to play snooker as, for many, snooker was “a waste of life”.

After beating Lei Peifan 10-9 to qualify for the World Snooker Championship, Vafaei, who defeated O’Sullivan 5-0 in a match in October, shared his thoughts on the 45-year-old’s comments.

He told The Metro: “A lot of things he says frustrate me. what kind of legend are you when you call people numpies?

“I was and still am good friends with him, but I don’t like that. Maybe he likes it and makes him feel good, but I think people should treat him that way too. I treat him the way he deserves.

“Listen, he doesn’t need to remind us that he’s won 20 major tournaments. I think someone next to him should remind him that he’s Ronnie O’Sullivan.

“To be honest, Ronnie O’Sullivan wouldn’t be here at all without his team, without the people around him. He wouldn’t be here at all.

“He’s comparing himself to someone else. He compares me to someone else. I do not like that. We don’t have to compare ourselves to others.

“He says you’re poor, I’m rich, I’m Ronnie O’Sullivan. I do not like it. I have money, my people in Iran have money, but we also have to respect the people.

“I really don’t want to get involved in those kinds of conversations. I like him a lot, I’m his fan, I love what he does, but sometimes he’s disrespectful, he’s not good for the game.

“I think he should retire to be honest. He should retire and then the younger generation should make the game bigger.” ‘What kind of legend are you?’
