“What Ja Morant can do, Merciful God!!” – Stephen A. Smith compares Ja Morant and Giannis Antetokounmpo, explains why he hesitated to choose the latter in playoff

Ja Morant and Giannis Antetokounmpo were considered two players who could become the face of the NBA in about a decade. Therefore, there is no way to avoid comparison between them.

On ESPN’s “First Take,” sports media personality Stephen A. Smith spoke of that choice:

“Look, I know Giannis will dominate all who are smaller and weaker. I understand that. But what can Ja Morant do, good God. I have to tell you, I can’t just sit there and stop Definitely say I’d rather let Giannis go to the playoffs. “

Smith continued:

“Let Ja Morant continue his ascension, and I can go with Ja. I think that’s a discussion. Giannis is Giannis. This guy is phenomenal. But we don’t know how Ja will turn out.”

.@stephenasmith thinks Ja Morant could be more valuable than Giannis in the post-season “I can’t sit there and definitively say I want Giannis [than Ja] It’s playoff time! ”

Who is better – Giannis Antetokounmpo or Ja Morant?

It is easy to forget that Ja Morant has only had his third season in the league. Since being drafted as the second overall pick in the 2019 draft, Morant has continued to light up the NBA with his high-flying stunts and incredible performances.

Morant is averaging 24.4 points, 6.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 35% farther from outside the arc and nearly 49% from the field. Morant also has five doubles because he was instrumental in Memphis Grizzlies ranked third in the highly competitive Western Conference.

Meanwhile, Giannis Antetokounmpo plays for the defending NBA champion and is the MVP of the 2021 finals. He is also a two-time regular MVP during the season and has won the Defensive Player of the Year award. In fact, only Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon won the MVP and DPOY awards in the same season.

Greek Freak is averaging 28.5 points, 11.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists while cutting the ball 53% better.

When comparing the two, it is important to note that both are in different spaces in terms of their development. Antetokounmpo couldn’t be as good as Morant in the third season. But that doesn’t necessarily mean Morant will be as good as “Greek Freak” when he reaches his peak.

Antetokounmpo is the better scorer and assister, while Morant is a better passer and long-ranger. Antetokounmpo is one of the best defensive players in the league and has proven himself in the post-season, while Morant has yet to make it past the first round of the knockout stages.

When things settle, Antetokounmpo is the better player. But Morant has the talent to one day be crowned the NBA’s best player and could soon become a better player than Antetokounmpo.
