What is the march for our lives?

March for Our Lives is known as a popular student-led movement fighting for gun control laws.

Their first demonstration took place in Washington DC on March 24, 2018, following the deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

“In the days following the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, we knew we had to make sure what happened to our community never happens again,” the organization’s website reads.

“We cannot allow another person to be killed by senseless gun violence.”

The website continued, “We cannot allow another person to experience the pain of losing a loved one.

“We can’t have another family waiting for a call or text that never comes.

“We cannot allow the normalization of gun violence to continue. We must create a safe and compassionate nation for all of us.”

On June 11, 2022, the movement held another multi-city rally following the fatal Uvalde, Texas shooting that killed 19 students and two teachers just weeks earlier.
