FORMER police officer Kim Potter took a stand during her trial on Friday, December 17, 2021, and almost a week later, a verdict has been announced.
Potter is on trial with charges against her for allegedly shooting and killing 20-year-old Daunte Wright earlier this year.

The jury found Potter guilty of all the charges against her and she now faces 25 years in prison.

What did Kim Potter say when she stood up?
When Potter, who has been charged with first- and second-degree manslaughter, spoke up, she recalled what happened on the day of the shooting.
Potter told the court, “We had a hard time. We tried to keep him from driving. It was a mess.”

Bodycam footage of the incident shows Potter shouting “delicious!” several times before shooting Wright.
Before Minneapolis The officer testified that she had never deployed on duty in her 26-year career and that she mistook her gun for a combat gun.
Before his arrest, Potter resigned just two days after the shooting.
What happened to Daunte Wright?
On April 11, 2021, Wright was arrested for an expired registration sticker and air freshener hanging from his rearview mirror.
When traffic stopped leading to an arrest, a struggle between Wright, Potter, and Potter’s officers ensued.
Potter allegedly mistook her gun for a shotgun, which she then shot at Wright. In court, she alleged that her intention was to subdue Wright rather than shoot and kill him.
Potter pleaded not guilty and now faces a minimum of a decade in prison if convicted.
