What is Gael Clichy doing now and is he still playing professional football?

GAEL CLICHY’S took center stage for both Arsenal and Manchester City as they made Premier League title history.

But since then, life has changed dramatically for the Frenchman ahead of his two old clubs’ clash in Wednesday’s top-two clash.

Clichy, 37, was one of the Gunners’ undefeated when they won the top flight unbeaten in 2003/04.

And eight years later, he was part of City’s first-ever Prem champions.

In other words, few players have been so dedicated and so prestigious for BOTH clubs.

In fact, perhaps only current Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who was Pep Guardiola’s No 2 at City, has played such an important role in both camps in modern times.

Incredibly, Clichy entered the cover story with a THIRD team after leaving England six years ago.

HOW IS HIS ARSENAL CV?

The attacking left-back, who has won 20 caps, joined Arsenal in 2003 from Cannes.

After winning the Prem so significantly the following year, he went on to win the FA Cup in 2005.

But he was a non-playing sub as Barcelona beat the Gunners 2-1 in the Champions League final at the Stade de France.

Shortly after, Ashley Cole made a controversial move to Chelsea, extending his playing time just in time for the club’s move to the Emirates.

But in July 2011, City snapped up Clichy for around £7million.

HOW IS IT RUN AT THE ETIHAD?

Clichy soon took over from Aleksandar Kolarov’s first place down the left side of defense – and went on to taste Prem’s glory after one of the most famous final days in English football history.

He played the full game as two stoppage-time goals clinched the title for neighbors United in a 3-2 home win over QPR.

That was the club’s first league title since 1968 and their first triumph since being renamed Prem in 1992.

But Clichy was “furious” when he got drenched in a fan’s beer as players and 2,000 supporters gathered for a tenth anniversary event last May.

Clichy also landed a league winners’ medal in 2014 and won the EFL Cup twice before heading to Turkey in July 2017.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN ISTANBUL?

Amazingly, Clichy was also in the spotlight at a pivotal moment for İstanbul Başakşehir.

He ended his three-year tenure in 2020 by helping the capital club win their first-ever top-flight championship.

Clichy even set up the game’s only goal as they decisively defeated Kayserispor on the penultimate day of this season.

WHERE DOES HE PLAY NOW?

The Toulouse-born star joined Swiss Super League club Servette on a free transfer in December 2020.

And he still performs consistently.

WHAT IS HE DOING OFF THE COURT?

Clichy studies for his coaching badges while still playing.

Who knows – maybe one day he could emulate Arteta…
