Before the start of the NCAA season, Wake Forest announced that Sam Hartman would be out indefinitely.

It’s currently unclear when Hartman will return to the pitch, but the school said his absence was related to a “non-football-related issue”.

Head coach Dave Clawson later clarified the situation, revealing that the star QB underwent “a medical procedure” after seeing a doctor during a practice session, according to ESPN.

“He just wanted these guys to see him and know he was okay,” Clawson said at the time.

“He wanted to come here with a smile and see his teammates. He’s in a good place. … He’s a guy who’s extremely motivated. Football is very important to him, he loves Wake Forest and he was just like, ‘Guys, I’ll be fine.'”
