STACY Feldman was a 44-year-old mother of two when she was found dead in her bathroom tub on March 1, 2015.
Her husband Robert called the police, who arrived at the scene immediately but were unable to revive her.
What happened to Stacy Feldman?
Robert and Stacy Feldman were living in Denver, Colorado when police received a call from Robert on March 1, 2015 to report that he had returned home to find his wife dead in the shower.
Police responded to the scene but were unable to revive Stacy Feldman.
They found that there was no water on the floor consistent with Robert’s story and that she had small bruises on her body.
However, the Denver Medical Examiner’s Office did not rule that Stacy’s death was a homicide, and pathologists have not been able to accurately determine her cause of death.
Robert told police that Stacy suffered from an enlarged heart and had used edible marijuana the night before.
He said he believes the marijuana contributed to his wife’s death, but coroners found no traces of THC — a key ingredient in marijuana — in Stacy’s body.
After her death, Robert collected the $750,000 life insurance policy that she had taken out five years earlier.
However, three months later, police received a call revealing that Stacy may have been murdered and linked Robert as the prime suspect.
A woman called Metro Denver Crime Stoppers in June 2015 to report that she was having an affair with Robert and Stacy found out about it shortly before her death.
The woman said she met Robert on Tinder and he told her he was divorced.
They met for coffee and after their next date the woman invited him to her house where she said they had sex.
She said she became suspicious that Robert lied about his divorce when he unexpectedly canceled plans and didn’t answer her.
She then searched Robert on Google and found that he was still married and contacted Stacy via email the same day she died.
She told investigators that after informing Stacy that she and her husband had been intimate, she said she was leaving him.
Denver7 News reported, according to the affidavit, “Stacy said so [the woman] Robert cheated on her before and she was ‘done with him’.”
The woman reportedly didn’t know Stacy had died until three months later when she googled Stacy to see if she and Robert were still together, but found her obituary.
When was Robert Feldman charged with Stacy’s murder?
When police received the call alerting them to Robert’s affair, they launched an investigation into Robert Feldman.
Police officers and firefighters who were at the scene told investigators Robert tried to intervene in the investigation.
The police officer who wrote the report said Robert appeared to have “exaggerated to avoid speaking to him,” Denver7 reported.
The affidavit also said firefighters reported Robert had been “deliberately uncooperative” and made a “concentrated effort not to answer questions.”
According to the affidavit, Robert said he did not want an autopsy performed.
Other indicators played a role in naming Robert as a suspect, most notably that Stacy died the same day she found out about the affair and her sister told police Robert said he was waiting three months after her death a “big” life insurance .
When police were investigating Stacy’s death, they called in a coroner who is “a nationally recognized expert in strangulation and asphyxiation injuries associated with domestic violence,” the affidavit said.
Two months later, the expert told police he believed Stacy died of strangulation or asphyxiation, which the affidavit said was the result of “an assault involving blunt force trauma, strangulation and asphyxiation.”
The affidavit was unsealed in February 2018, revealing that Robert killed his wife when she realized he was having an affair.
Robert was arrested on February 13, 2018 and charged with first degree murder.
Was Robert Feldman convicted?
Robert was convicted of first-degree murder on April 19, 2022 after a jury deliberated for nine hours.
“Stacy Feldman can’t tell you what happened that day, but her body can,” Conboy said in her closing argument, 9 News reported.
“And what it tells you is that she suffered long, drawn out and horrific beatings.
“It didn’t come from CPR. It didn’t come from pulling her out of the tub. It didn’t come from a simple collapse in a shower. What that is is evidence of a brutal hit.”
Robert’s defense attorney Jeff Pagliuca accused prosecutors of not thoroughly investigating Stacy’s death and of weaving a conspiracy that he claimed was not based on solid evidence.
“We cannot accept gossip and rumor instead of the truth,” Pagliuca said in his closing argument.
“We cannot engage in speculation instead of investigation. We cannot jump to conclusions. We cannot take shortcuts in an investigation.
“And we cannot put our trust, our trust, in charlatans instead of real doctors practicing real medicine. So this is a tragedy and not murder.”
Despite the best efforts of the defense, Robert was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Stacy’s death will be investigated in a new two-hour Dateline special airing September 30 at 9 p.m. EST.
