What happened to Freddie Flintoff while filming Top Gear?
Freddie Flintoff was flown to hospital after a horrific car accident while filming in Surrey on December 12, 2022.
The accident happened while he was filming an episode of Top Gear at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome.
Freddie was injured while filming a segment for the show while the cameras were rolling at the time.
His co-star Chris Harris was also at the test track when the accident happened.
How is Freddie Flintoff?
After the incident, paramedics at the scene rushed to Freddie’s aid.
A source told The Sun: “Freddie is in hospital after an accident involving Top Gear.
“He drove quite normally on the track. He wasn’t driving at high speeds – it was just an accident that could happen to anyone.
“All the usual health and safety measures were in place for the filming as well.
“Freddie was taken to the hospital in an ambulance shortly after.
“His injuries are not life-threatening and he is being treated.
“The filming has been postponed for the time being and everyone is just concerned that Freddie recovers.”
A BBC spokesman confirmed to The Sun that the host was injured in the crash and was taken to hospital for further treatment.
They said: “Freddie was injured in an accident at Top Gear’s test track this morning – and crew medics were on the scene immediately.
“He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm further details in due course.”
In March 2023, The Sun revealed that the Morgan Super 3 open-top sports car that Freddie was driving was not fitted with airbags.
An internal health and safety inquiry is nearing completion and BBC bosses are anxiously awaiting possible legal action by those involved in the break-up.
The Ashes hero suffered serious facial injuries and broken ribs.
The £43,000 British hand-built roadster meets UK safety standards, although Morgan confirms on its website that it doesn’t have airbags.
It is approved as a “motorized tricycle”.
A source said: “Very little has been released about the accident and bosses are keen to keep the details under wraps.
“This revelation that there is no airbag is bound to raise questions from fans.”
Freddie has suspended all work while he recovers.
When did Freddie join Top Gear?
After an incredible career as an English cricketer, Freddie – real name Andrew – made the switch to television.
In 2018 he was announced as the new presenter of Top Gear alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.
The trio were an instant hit with viewers and the show moved from BBC Two to a primetime slot on BBC One in 2020 after 18 years.

Meanwhile, Freddie’s smash is the latest setback for the ‘cursed’ show after narrowly escaping a 124mph crash in 2019.
He miraculously walked away from the “near-death” crash unscathed, insisting he was “perfectly fine.”
