What did Liz Truss say that upset Vladimir Putin?

It is not clear exactly what Liz Truss said to cause nuclear escalation from Russian President Putin.

It is believed they are referring to an interview on Sunday, February 27, 2022.

In an interview on Sunday Morning TV, Truss said that Russia’s act in Ukraine could lead to conflict with NATO.

“If we don’t stop Putin in Ukraine, we’ll see others at stake – the Baltics, Poland, Moldova, and it could lead to conflict with NATO,” she said.

“We don’t want to go there. That’s why it’s important for us to make sacrifices now. ”

Interview role models statements she has made before about the risk of NATO getting involved before Russia declares war.

It has been suggested that the Kremlin escalated the threat as a diversionary tactic, as Truss’ comment is consistent with what has been said previously.

A spokesman for Boris Johnson said: “It remains the case that the rhetoric we are seeing from Putin’s regime is designed to distract from the situation on the ground. That’s a lot of our focus.

What does Russia say on Liz Truss?

Truss was indicated, but not named, in a statement from Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov.

He said the remarks by Western politicians were “unacceptable”.

The fact that NATO and Russia could clash seems to have annoyed the Kremlin.

“I will not name the author of these statements, even though it is the British foreign minister,” Peskov said.

What does Vladimir Putin’s nuclear order mean?

Russia is a nuclear weapons state under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

They keep a large stock of ready-to-fire nukes and a nuclear briefcase kept with Putin at all times.

High alert means they can quickly launch their nuclear weapons within minutes.

Russia is estimated to have more than 5,000 nuclear weapons, similar to the United States.

The level of alert Russia has announced means it is prepared and ready to strike faster.

There have only been two nuclear attacks in history, during the Second World War.

Nuclear threats tend to be posited according to the theory of mutually assured destruction, meaning that if one nation attacks, the other superpowers will strike back.
